Puerto Rican Soccer Makes Its Mark at Sevilla FC

Puerto Rican soccer had a strong presence at Sevilla FC this past weekend. Leandro Antonetti became the first Puerto Rican player to feature for the first team.

The Puerto Rico international had his first minutes under Xavier García Pimienta, playing the final moments of the Matchday 21 LALIGA clash against RCD Espanyol, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Just hours later, Antonetti was also in the starting lineup for Sevilla Atlético’s 1-0 victory over Algeciras in Group 2 of the Primera RFEF.

Meanwhile, Sevilla FC D also saw a Puerto Rican debut. Fabián Rodríguez, who had been training with the team for several weeks, was able to make his first appearance under Óscar Olomo in an important 2-0 win against Gerena.

Both players had the opportunity to meet at the José Ramón Cisneros Palacios Sports City, where they took a special photo together to commemorate the occasion.

The Swedish forward Sebastián Fineman makes his debut with Sevilla FC

Sevilla FC D, the club’s international team, has added a new signing with the arrival of Sebastian Fineman. The Swedish forward has now joined the team’s training regime and experienced his first training sessions under the guidance of Óscar Olomo and his coaching staff.

“I feel very good. I’m enjoying the city and the team. There are great teammates and coaches. We have good chemistry. So far, I’m really enjoying it. It’s much warmer here than in Sweden. You know, there’s snow and all that in winter back home, but I like the warm weather, so it’s not a problem for me,” he commented on his initial impressions with the club.

The footballer has set himself the goal of learning Spanish for optimal integration, though he appreciates the positive atmosphere with his teammates and the coaching staff led by Óscar Olomo: “It’s a big change, of course. I have to adapt and try to learn a bit of Spanish to communicate with my teammates. We try to communicate with gestures and simple words, so it’s going well.”

Fineman, who describes himself as “a good finisher and a strong player,” acknowledges that playing for Sevilla FC is a tremendous opportunity: “Being a part of this means a lot. It’s a great club and a big opportunity for me to show what I can do on the field, and I hope everything goes well.” Finally, he highlighted Jesús Navas as a source of inspiration: “He’s a club legend, has done so much, and is the face of the club, and I enjoy watching him play.”

Antonio Puerta Football School Kicks Off the 2024-25 Season

The Antonio Puerta Football School experienced one of its most iconic moments of the season yesterday with the inauguration of the new term at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Hundreds of children gathered at Sevilla FC’s stadium to kick off a season full of excitement, football, Sevillista values, and fun. The event, attended by Sevilla FC president José María del Nido Carrasco, players Juanlu, Agoumé, and Pedro Ortiz, and female players Esther Sullastres, Diana Gomes, and Pamela González, included numerous recreational activities for the students and a simple public presentation for parents that showcased how the school operates.

“We are celebrating the 16th year of the school that bears the name of our eternal number 16. That same number tells us very different stories. First and foremost, this school is the best possible tribute to our Antonio Puerta. At Sevilla FC, we remember him and keep him present every single day, but I believe that through this school bearing his name, his name being spoken by all these boys and girls is one of the most cherished tributes for Antonio, who surely watches over you with enthusiasm and pride. The second meaning of 16 is that all these years of this wonderful project show that it is more alive than ever, instilling marvelous values in our children: equality, fraternity, camaraderie, education, and sports. You must play sports and have fun, but you must also study and educate yourselves because education will allow you to make choices,” the president told the students.

The event featured a mini football fair before and after the official proceedings, with the main highlight being a magician’s performance and, as in the previous year, a freestyle football show. Additionally, the children had the opportunity to explore the first team’s official bus. The last spots for enrollment in the 2024-25 term are still available through this link.
