Puerto Rican Soccer Makes Its Mark at Sevilla FC
Leandro Antonetti debuted with the first team, won with Sevilla Atlético, and Fabián Rodríguez played his first match with Sevilla FC D.
Puerto Rican soccer had a strong presence at Sevilla FC this past weekend. Leandro Antonetti became the first Puerto Rican player to feature for the first team.
The Puerto Rico international had his first minutes under Xavier García Pimienta, playing the final moments of the Matchday 21 LALIGA clash against RCD Espanyol, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Just hours later, Antonetti was also in the starting lineup for Sevilla Atlético’s 1-0 victory over Algeciras in Group 2 of the Primera RFEF.
Meanwhile, Sevilla FC D also saw a Puerto Rican debut. Fabián Rodríguez, who had been training with the team for several weeks, was able to make his first appearance under Óscar Olomo in an important 2-0 win against Gerena.
Both players had the opportunity to meet at the José Ramón Cisneros Palacios Sports City, where they took a special photo together to commemorate the occasion.
