Sevilla “D” draws in Gerena
The Sevilla side claimed a valuable point at the José Juan Romero Gil Municipal Stadium after an intense and evenly contested match against a direct rival in the standings
Sevilla “D” faced a demanding away fixture in the penultimate league matchday, travelling to face Unión Gerena, a side positioned just above them in the table. Coming into the game on an impressive run of results, the Sevilla team aimed for a victory that would allow them to overtake their opponents, having already secured a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture at the José Ramón Cisneros Palacios Training Ground.
Backed by strong home support at the José Juan Romero Gil Municipal Stadium, the match began with Sevilla “D” looking to take control of possession and dictate the tempo. The visitors created the first opportunity in the 10th minute, when Abdullah Aljirafi fired an effort narrowly wide of the left post.
Following that early chance, Unión Gerena responded well and began threatening through quick transitions and direct attacking play. Although the Sevilla side enjoyed the majority of possession, the hosts managed to create dangerous openings. Mamour Sené produced two important saves to keep the score level during the first half.
However, in the 32nd minute, a recovery in midfield allowed the home side to launch a swift attacking move, leaving their striker one-on-one with the goalkeeper before calmly finishing to make it 1-0.
Sevilla “D” reacted immediately to the setback. Just three minutes later, Álvaro Perea restored parity with a well-taken finish following a positive attacking sequence from the visitors. The sides went into halftime level at 1-1.
After the break, the Sevilla side displayed greater composure and control, dominating possession while limiting Unión Gerena’s attacking opportunities. The visitors created several chances before finally taking the lead in the 73rd minute, when Fidel Morán struck a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the far corner to make it 1-2.
The hosts responded quickly, though, and equalised just five minutes later from a corner kick situation.
In the closing stages, Sevilla “D” continued pushing forward in search of a winner, while Unión Gerena attempted to disrupt the visitors’ attacking rhythm. Despite several late opportunities, the score remained unchanged, and the match ended in a competitive 2-2 draw, allowing Sevilla “D” to extend their strong run of form in a challenging away fixture.
